The interlocking horseshoe - Good luck and protection.

The horseshoe is a good luck charm that has been around since the middle ages.

At sea, sailors would nail a horseshoe to the foremast of their vessels to prevent evil spirits from entering or the ship being cursed. It also ensured a safe arrival to their destination.

While the number 13 might be considered unlucky for some, it is treated as an antidote to conventional bad luck by many ink enthusiasts, including sailors, prison gangs and outlaws, and those who perceive themselves as an outsider.

Lucky is from a series of screen prints by artist Gareth Williams developed from his original lino cuts, which fuse pop art and classic tattoo styling with antique wood block type using a vintage desk-top press.

Individually hand-signed by the artist.
