About Us

Of Cabbages and Kings is a shop and gallery space in Stoke Newington, London. Working with aspiring homegrown indie talent alongside established UK artists and designers, the shop stocks a handpicked selection of stationery, jewellery, and homewares. The gallery specialises in original and affordable limited edition prints. With an ethos of nurturing local, the focus behind the OC&K brand has always been authenticity, sustainability and products made in the UK, wherever possible from responsibly sourced and recycled materials.

Of Cabbages and Kings is also a creative hub that brings together a broad network of like-minded people across the community. It’s through holding regular exhibitions showcasing emerging and established artists, working with local charities, hosting workshops, events and knit nights, that we feel connected to the area.

Our journey began in 2008 when we opened our first boutique just off Church Street. Its long-standing reputation for creativity and independent business made Stoke Newington the perfect fit. OC&K became a Stokey staple renowned for original and imaginative design and over the following four years the brand grew, setting up a monthly makers’ market that ran alongside the shop.

In 2012 OC&K joined forces with Knit with attitude, an ethical yarn shop, and together we took up residence at 127 Stoke Newington High Street. One side of the room is a wall of wool; boxes filled with brightly coloured balls of yarn, on the other is the OC&K wall of products, pictures and prints. Bold, bright and colourful!

MEET THE TEAM

Our customers matter here at Of Cabbages and Kings. We have been part of Stoke Newington's diverse local community for over 10 years and we understand how important it is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for people to come and both learn new creative skills and to shop. We also understand that we don't always get it right and welcome any feedback you may have to offer good and bad. You can always email us directly or leave us a review on Google, we will be happy to help.

jess-stencil.jpgFor those of you who don't know me already I'm Jessica, owner and founder of OC&K. I'm pretty hands on so you'll see me here most days and very often up a ladder! If you'd like to know more about my journey and how this little shop and gallery sprang into being, head over to our blog and check out my post Of Cabbages and Kings Turns 10 - The Story So Far.

george-stencil.jpgMeet our main man George. Shawl knitter extraordinaire, George has a keen eye for colour and design. He is always at hand to help you pick a fade or choose the perfect frame for your artwork. With a background in Book Arts at Camberwell, when he's not here George is working on various art projects or manning exhibitions and book fairs. Check them out on his website: georgecullen.com. And he's walked the Capital Ring and The London Loop!

maya-stencil.jpgMaya, aka Stokey's Norwegian Knitting Lady is the owner and founder of our sister shop Knit with attitude. With a penchant for pear cider (only 3 mind) her mission is to untangle the truths and untruths about global yarn production. Maya pays attention to the details and if you look closely you will notice her colour co'ordinated nail polish often matches her current knitting project.⠀

gwen-stencil1.jpgIntroducing Gwen our Weekend Manager. This girl from Minnesota has recently taken to water. She had a fondness for American folk and when she's not navigating the East London canal system she plays bass and writes her own songs.

susan-thumbnail.jpgSusan is the newest member of the team. Always up for a chat, this lovely lady has lived in Stokey for 26 years! Mum of 4 and now grandma to 3, her family keep her on her toes. But when she does get a chance to put her feet up the first thing she grabs is her knitting.
