At sea, the anchor is the most secure object in a sailor's life, making it the perfect representation of stability. This is why you'll often see anchor tattoos inscribed with "Mum" or the name of a sailor's sweetheart (the people who keep them grounded).
Hold Fast is from a series of screen prints by artist Gareth Williams developed from original linocut prints, which fuse pop art and classic tattoo styling with antique wood block type using a vintage desk-top press.
