Susanna Widmann

Susanna Widmann is originally from Barcelona and has now been living and working in London for over twelve years. She has an established career as a tattooist, which often influences her work as artist and printmaker. Susanna is fascinated with old encyclopedic engravings of flora and fauna and she often combines anatomical and botanical elements in a surreal or dream-like arrangement. Most of Susanna's images begin life as sketches in Bic Biro on watercolour paper as it leaves a highly textured surface that can be transferred to the print, especially with photopolymer etching as you have a great deal of control over the amount of detail that is picked up. More recently Susanna has been working with Chine-Collé to add colour and subtle layers and textures.

Susanna is a member of the newly formed Hidden Hands Collective and regularly exhibits with East London Printmakers. She has also taken part in shows such as 'What Lies Beneath?' at Stour Space, The Festival of Print, The Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, The London Illustration Fair and The House of Illustration's Winter Fair.
