Original illustrated map of Hackney, a borough of London, UK, inspired by the antique-style English County maps designed by the 19th century artist and engraver Thomas Moule.

All elements of the design, including the map, border and decoration has been entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured by the artist.

The map features design elements that reference the area's rich diversity, culture and history. The coat of arms at bottom centre of the image is the official arms of the borough (more information on which can be read on this page http://www.ngw.nl/int/gbr/h/hackney.htm). The two illustrations within the roundels at the right show views of Clissold Park in Stoke Newington in the north of the borough, and London Fields near Hackney Central in the south. The border decoration, inspired by the tile decoration on the exterior of a mosque on Stoke Newington Road, references the borough's Muslim and Turkish communities.

Neighbourhoods covered by the map include: Dalston, De Beauvoir Town, Finsbury Park, Hackney Central, Hackney Central, Hackney Downs, Hackney Marshes, Hackney Road, Hackney Wick, Haggerston, Homerton, Hoxton, Kingsland Road, London Fields, Lower Clapton, Shacklewell, Shoreditch, Stamford Hill, Stoke Newington, South Hackney (including Victoria Park, across the border in Tower Hamlets) and Upper Clapton.

Other locations, buildings and sights featured on the map include: Abney Park Cemetery, Arcola Theatre, Broadway Market, Chatsworth Road Market, Clissold Park, Dalston Rio Cinema, Geffrye Museum, Hackney City Farm, Hackney Empire, Hackney Town Hall, Haggerston Park, Homerton Hospital, Hoxton Square, Lea Bridge, Olympic Park (part), Ridley Road Market, River Lea, St. Augustine's Tower, Stoke Newington Church Street, Suleymaniye Mosque, Sutton House, Victoria Miro Gallery, Well Street Common and Well Street Market.

Unique digitally-rendered artwork. High quality digital print on archival paper, signed in pencil by the artist, with stamp of authenticity.

Thank you for the wonderful art and fantastic service! It will be the perfect present for my Hackney born and bred husband now living in New Zealand. Especially as we were married in Stoke Newington and this gift is to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary!
