Andrew Ciccone creates psychedelic collages and spray paint artworks from old photos and magazines found at flea markets and junk shops. Meticulously hand cutting out images that are then collected together and assembled in collaged compositions using an intuitive process of free association. They are overlaid on brightly coloured splattered backgrounds that are created with heavily applied spray paint and stencils. Drawing upon a contrast and tension in his works through the process vs the object, deliberation vs improvisation, irreverence vs reverence, high art vs low art and cohesion vs chaos. The titles of the work serve as the ‘punchline’ to the composition and become the concept holding all the disparate elements together. Andrew also runs Navel-Gazers a music interview blog series.
