Printmaker and Textile Designer
Will Pearce was born in London, but grew up in Durban, South Africa, his father a man of the sea and his mother an artist. He left school to go to art-college and later studied textile design and screenprinting at Technikon Natal. After finishing Tech he worked as a freelance textile designer, doing work for a couple of surf/skate companies, and also worked in a record store.
He moved to the UK in 1998. Unable to find sustainable design work in textiles he started working at Tower Records in Piccadilly Circus. He continued to do occasional design work and also started to paint. He later spent a number of years working for an indie film festival.
Will’s work displays a wide range of influences, not least from the films and music subcultures he encountered in the years he spent working in records stores, playing in a punk/rock/metal band and working in the film industry. The often sinister mood and dark lines of his prints are offset by appealing colours and bold layering, with varying subject matter and an often eclectic style.
Will is based in a studio space in Walthamstow, London where he specialises in multi-layered limited edition screenprints on paper, produces prints on textiles, paintings and graphic design.
