Original illustrated map of Islington, a borough of London, UK, inspired by the antique-style English County maps designed by the 19th century artist and engraver Thomas Moule.
All elements of the design, including the map, border and decoration has been entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured by the artist.
The map features design elements that reference the area's rich diversity, culture and history. The coat of arms at the right of the image is the official arms of the borough (more information on which can be read on this page http://www.civicheraldry.co.uk/great_london.html) and the smaller three shields at bottom right reference historic landowners in the area. The two illustrations within the boxes at bottom left and top right show views of St Mary's Church in Upper Street, Islington and the clock tower in Highbury. The border decoration a neo-classical window frame inspired by the architecture prevalent in the borough.
Neighbourhoods covered by the map include: Angel, Archway, Barnsbury, Canonbury, Clerkenwell, Dalston (part), Farringdon, Finsbury, Finsbury Park, Highbury, Highgate (part), Holloway, King's Cross, Newington Green, Pentonville and Tufnell Park.
